Where Does a Custom Truck Build Start?
It starts with understanding what the truck needs to do!
That could mean repairing wear and tear, changing an existing design to improve efficiency, adding specialist equipment, or designing a completely new truck for a specific application.
ITSS works with customers from the initial idea, helping develop a solution that considers both how the truck needs to perform and how practical it will be to build, operate and maintain.
Design and Fabrication
Once the requirements are collated, the design can be developed and fabrication can begin.
ITSS provides fabrication, welding, precision CNC machining and general engineering from our Warkworth workshop, allowing the metal components of a custom truck build to be manufactured and modified in-house.
Having design and fabrication working together is particularly valuable on custom projects, where components often need to be engineered specifically for the job rather than selected off the shelf.
Hydraulics and Specialist Truck Builds
Hydraulic systems are a major part of ITSS’s custom truck building capabilities.
They use Hydraulink branded hoses and fittings. We provide hydraulic plumbing in-house and can also assist with auto electrical requirements, helping bring the different operating systems of the truck together.
We also specialise in the design and build of SmartDig hydro excavators and vacuum units, creating purpose-built vehicles where the fabrication, hydraulics and specialist equipment all need to operate as one complete system. Our wider capabilities also include crane and Hiab work.
Who Certifies a Custom Truck Build?
Depending on the type of truck build or modification, engineering certification may be required.
ITSS Operations Manager Jared Dodds is a Certified Transport Engineer, allowing ITSS to manage design, fabrication, assembly and certification under one roof.
This means certification requirements can be considered during the design and build process, rather than becoming something that needs to be dealt with once the truck is already completed.
Blast, Paint and Final Finish
The final stage is making sure the finished truck is ready for work.
ITSS has a full blast and paint booth at our Warkworth workshop, allowing truck builds and fabricated components to be prepared and painted to a high commercial finish in-house.
It means the project can stay with the same team through another important stage of the build, providing consistent oversight.
