Will AI Replace Humans in Engineering?
At ITSS Engineering, we focus on what works. Our foundation is built on technical skill, practical thinking, and high-integrity work. These values guide how we approach new technology.
We don’t chase trends. We see innovation as a long-term commitment. That means staying open to useful tools but taking the time to test and understand them before putting them into our process.
AI is already built into many of the tools we use. It has shown value in routine tasks, helping with design reviews, supporting CNC prep, and speeding up access to reference data. We’ve started to see how it can help. But we also know where it falls short.
AI won’t replace a skilled fabricator with a nine-inch grinder or a MIG welder. It won’t replace a toolmaker with years of CNC knowledge who can not only program a job but also plan it from start to finish, adjusting on the fly when something unexpected shows up. It won’t hear the change in tone when metal doesn’t sound right. It won’t feel the weight and response of a tool in hand. It can’t take a part and understand its purpose beyond the drawing. That’s the work of people who know the job from end to end.
Still, we see where AI fits. When used well, it supports the people doing the work. It frees up time. It gives another lens on the job. And if used with care, it can become a helpful part of how we deliver.
Our management team has completed AI training to prepare for the future. But we are also building clear boundaries. Awareness creates the guardrails that keep us and our customers safe. That includes protecting IP, securing data, and holding the line on quality.
AI is not a replacement. It is one tool among many. And like any tool, it works best when handled by people who know what they are doing.
At ITSS, that’s the standard. Skilled people, proven systems, and the right tools used for the right reasons.
